Removing coatings, surface preparation

Professional surface preparation is extremely important if good adhesive pull and shear strength is to be achieved for the skilled and efficient coating of floors prior to recovering them with mineral coatings or coatings bonded with synthetic resin.
IIn many cases the use of heavy floor grinders is enough to achieve the appropriate degree of surface roughness. Surface planing with floor grinding machines can considerably reduce the expense of levelling with filler and recoating.

A. REMOVAL OF EPOXY RESIN (EP) AND POLYURETHANE (PU) COATINGS
Depending on the initial situation, coating thickness and floor condition, it may be advantageous to scarify floors or, where technically and economically possible, peel them with heavy floor grinding machines from Schwamborn with special PCD diamond tools.
In cases where the concrete subsurface is damaged or unstable, it is required to use a Schwamborn scarifier like BEF 320 or a cold milling machine first to prepare a new and stable floor structure before applying a new coating.

When compared to shot blasting or scarifying, floor grinding has the following advantages:
• Excellent adhesive pull and shear strength is achieved
• Floor grinding is a more gentle working process
• Low material consumption of levelling compounds and floor filler
• Improved surface appearance compared to shot blasting
• Avoidance of tracks left from shot blasting and scarifying.

B. FLOOR RENOVATION, REMOVAL OF ADHESIVE AND FILLERS
It is important to remove residual layers and the residues left from old tiles, parquet and carpets to achieve optimum adhesion for new flooring materials. Depending on the situation and initial floor conditions, BEF scarifiers from Schwamborn or floor grinding machines equipped with special diamond tools are the best solution to clean the floor surface before installing a new floor.
